UKCP Registered Gestalt Psychotherapist and Clinical Supervisor

I am a UKCP registered Gestalt Psychotherapist. I completed four years training and qualified in 1998 from the Sherwood Psychotherapy Training Institute, Nottingham. I am a qualified Clinical Supervisor and supervise Psychotherapists and Counsellors.

I have run a private Psychotherapy, Counselling and Supervison practice since 1993 in Sheffield, Exeter and Poole& Bournemouth.

I have worked for many years offering counselling and psychotherapy, couples and family therapy in various Voluntary Organisations, Social Services Departments and the NHS. Through this work I am trained and experienced in

*Gestalt Psychotherapy
*Child and Family Therapy
*Brief and Focal Therapy
*Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. (CBT)

I have worked with children and families, adolescents, adults with mental health problems, homeless people, and children and adults who have been sexually abused.

For nine years I worked in the NHS in Exeter and Mid Devon with people suffering with Depression and Anxiety. I ran the Stress Control Course, a psycho-educational course to help with anxiety and stress for 6 years.

My qualifications include:

Diploma in Gestalt Psychotherapy. 1998. (Sherwood Institue, Nottingham)
Diploma in Clinical Supervision.2003. (Sherwood Institute. Nottingham)
Certificate of Qualification in Social Work. 1990. (University of Sheffield)
MA in Applied Social Sciences.1990. (University of Sheffield)

Throughout my working life I have worked with people,in various different settings offering advice, support, counselling, running groups, offering benefits advice or whatever was needed by those who I worked with. I have always enjoyed my work and had a lifelong interest in how to promote change and enhance wellbeing in those I have worked with.

I trained and qualified as a Social Worker in 1990 and started training in Gestalt Psychotherapy in 1992,qualifiying in 1998. I chose to train in Gestalt Psychotherapy because it was a therapy that I had experienced and found immensely helpful in my own personal development.

Gestalt is a holistic therapy that sees you, rather than the therapist,as the expert on yourself. The therapist works to help the client become more aware of themselves and how they manage their feelings and experience rather than offering advice and expert knowledge and telling the client how to change. This way of working appealed to me as did the wide ranging and exciting interventions used by Gestalt Psychotherapists.

Over the years I have trained in other therapies and techniques and am interested in 'what is useful and what will 'work' for this particular client? Which, of all the skills I have will this client most relate to?' rather than being tied to one particular therapy.

I have attended many short courses relevant to psychotherapy, counselling and CBT as part of my ongoing professional development including:
